5 for Friday & Freebies

Hi, friends! Thanks to Doodle Bugs Teaching for hosting 5 for Friday and Teaching Blog Addict for hosting Freebie Friday!

This week we’ve experienced some crazy weather! All in one week, I have worn sandals, sat in a basement waiting for a tornado warning to expire, and frolicked in the snowleave it to Kentucky J

(1) Much of my Snow Day today was spent at the public library. We have THE best children’s section. It includes floor-to-ceiling READ letters, a reading gazebo, and a reading treeso cool. While I was there, I definitely may I have checked out every Three Little Pigs book in the place. When the 1st grade teachers were planning for next week, we decide we needed to cover RL.1.6 (decide who is telling the story at various points in a text). We’ll use different versions of familiar tales (The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood) to explore perspective. I would love to include sometime of readers theatre for the week but have not gotten that far, yet! Also, I picked up Voices at the Park and think it will be the perfect way to introduce perspective. It tells the same story through three different perspectives all in the same book! Do you have any go-to resources when teaching point of view?

(2) In school, it has been a very BIG week. We celebrated out 100th Day of School, Groundhog Day, took our measurement assessment, and wrapped-up Mem Fox. Tuesday we read Tough Boris and it was wonderful! It has so many awesome adjectives and was the perfect time to introduce inferring. As a class we discussed that Mem Fox gives us many words to describe Boris (massive, scary, gruff) but we can also make inferences about Boris based on our schema of pirates. Our friends did so well and the Exit Slips were wonderful – woohoo!

(3) This week in math, we finished up measurement. Our friends really loved the hands-on aspect of this unit and learned to use new vocabulary such as – heavier than, lighter than, as heavy as! We do spiral review during centers, so they’ll get a lot more practice over the next months.

(4) {FREEBIE} As a reward for making it through the week (yay you!), I have a freebie. It is an anchor chart and a survey from my new product – Super Data: Anchor Charts and Surveys for Data Collection.  Click on the picture below to download it from Dropbox!

(5) Shout-out to Ashley Hughes for creating such a cute Super Sunday Sale button J My wish list is growing J I’ll be giving 20% off all my products on Sunday, February 3rd & Saturday, February 4th and you can score another 8% off using the code SUPER at checkout on Sunday, February 3rd. Head over to my TPT Store  or click on any of the pictures to see some of these resources!

  5. Thanks for the book suggestion of Voices in the Park, I'll be checking that one at for sure. When teaching point of view I like to use The Paper Bag Princess and have the students retell the story from the point of view of Ronald and the dragon.
